John Lawson
John Grant Lawson, 85, Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Center, Rutledge, died Sunday (Jan. 9, 2000) after an extended illness.
He was retired from the Mead Corp., Kingsport and was a member of the Grassy Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Lawson was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a medical technician in European countries. Mr. Lawson was a recipient of EAME Theater Ribbon, five Bronze Stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead, and American Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion No. 21 of Rogersville and Masonic Lodge No. 386 F.&A.M. of Church Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cora Harris Lawson; sisters, Anne Belle Lawson, Mae Hurd, and Blanche Manis; bothers, James Lawson, Clay Lawson, Coger Lawson, Paul Lawson, and Sturm Lawson.
Surviving are one brother, Hugh Kyle Lawson, Stanton, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Manis officiating.
