Eva Jewell Adams Young passed away on Oct. 10, 2001 after a long abundant life of 95 years. She was born on July 21, 1906 in East Garland, UT, the fourth of ten children born to Delos Edgar and Hannah Peterson Adams.
After spending a happy childhood in East Garland, Eva enjoyed living with her grandmothers while attending high school in Ephraim and in Pleasant Grove. She had completed one year at Brigham Young College in Logan, when her mother died. Eva then returned to East Garland where for 13 years she taught Elementary School and helped her father take care of her younger siblings.
On June 7, 1937 she married Earl Danielson Young in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Perry, UT and for a few years then moved to Glendale, CA, where Earl worked at Lockheed Aircraft and where their three children were born. After the family moved back to the farm in Perry in 1948, Eva was asked to teach in the Perry Elementary School. She taught until retirement in 1972, making a total of 37 years teaching children reading, writing and arithmetic.
She attended Extension classes and summer school, graduating from Utah Agricultural College in Logan in 1952. Subsequent summers were spent helping develop the family orchard and raising beautiful flowers in her garden.
She was active in the LDS Church all her life, with many Ward and Stake Relief Society and Primary callings. Her specialty was leading children to sing heartfelt and joyful songs unto the Lord. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Connie) Young, Perry, UT and Stanford (Susan) Young, Hyrum, UT; a sister, Ardes Adams, Tremonton, UT, and a brother, Carroll Adams, Ogden, UT; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; daughter, Katheryn; brothers, Eldon, Afton, Floyd and Ursel; sisters, Leila (Booth), Verneta (Bourne), and Maxine.
Funeral services will be held at the Perry Ward Chapel, 2415 South Park Dr. at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14 at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, and at the church 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. on Monday.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Eva Adams, Ardes Adams, and Leila Adams Boothe Elementary Teacher Scholarship fund for Utah State University. Contributions to this fund may be made at the Wells Fargo Bank in Brigham City.
