Lowell M. Hanks
Lowell Montell Hanks was born April 4, 1910 near Oakland, Illinois age 31 years, nine months and fourteen days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Hanks of Aberdeen, Miss. He spent his boyhood days in Aberdeen and came to work on the farm of his grandfather John Hanks near Hindsboro when quite a young man and was very familiar around Hindsboro. He was married to Miss Leola McCoy of Decatur and to this union was born three children, Richard Dale, age 11; Shirley Delight, age 10, and Nancy Francis, age 7 who survive.
He later went to Decatur and worked for his brother-in-law, James Greene in the Greene food market and had recently gone to Aberdeen to visit his parents when the tragedy occurred. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Hanks, Aberdeen, Miss., two brothers, Mandle, of Aberdeen, Voyles LaMarr of San Francisco, California, five sisters, Mrs. Maxine Laughlin, Mrs. Imo Greene, Mrs. Martha Brown, Miss Joan Hanks, Decatur; Mrs. Geraldine Willis, Aberdeen, Miss., a grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Hanks, of Hindsboro and several aunts, uncles and many other relatives and friends.
He joined the Christian church at Aberdeen when a young boy of 12 or 13 years and was baptized.
Lowell was a happy go lucky boy and was always the happiest at work. There was no job too large or too small for him. He was leaving for the army in a few days.
