Brother of two area women dies

ABERDEEN, Miss. – Silvia Newton Hanks, 90, of Aberdeen, Miss., formerly of Decatur, died at 9 p.m. Friday in Aberdeen. He was the brother of Mrs. Emma Tuttle and Mrs. Ralph (Ethel) Douglas, both of Hindsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Brintlinger's Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.

Mr. Hanks was born in Nevada, Ind., a son of John and Amanda Cravens Hanks.

He married Minnie Mullis in 1909 in Indianapolis, Ind. She survives.

He is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. James (Imo) Green and Mrs. Joan Risem, both of Decatur, Mrs. Maxine Hadley of Laurel, Miss., Mrs. Martha Brown of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, and Mrs. Joseph (Geraldine) Ferry of Aberdeen, Miss.; two sons, Mandle of Aberdeen, Miss., and Voyles of Mobile, Ala.; four sisters, Mrs. Tuttle and Mrs. Douglas, both of Hinsboro, Mrs. Nellie Barnett of Murdock and Mrs. Kenny (Katie) Haas of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Paul of Indianapolis, Ind., and William of Urbana; 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hanks was a retired well driller and formerly employed at Green's Food Market.
