Lewis was known as "Uncle Lewis" in the family. He was married three times. He shouldn't be confused with his brother David's son, also named Lewis Nihiser.

Wife #3: Maude Bell Reed, born 1 Jan 1880 in Danville, Indiana; died 14 Dec 1925 in Dalton City, Moultrie Co., Illinois.

Wife #1: Rhue Anna Davis, born about 1858; married Lewis Nihiser 4 Dec 1875 in Shelby County, Illinois. By the 1880 census, Rhue Anna was no longer living with Lewis. I don't know if she left him and later died, or if she divorced him.

Wife #2: Abigail Whitney, born 5 Jan 1863 in Toronto, Woodson, Kansas; died 1 June 1903 in Dalton City, Moultrie Co., Illinois. He married her 27 Mar 1881 in Kansas.
