Funeral services were held at Mullet's Chapel
Tuesday morning for John T. Ellis, who passed away Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sadie Anderson of Lawrence, Kansas. Another daughter, Mrs. J. E. Crawford resides in Superior. Rev. George Almond of the Methodist Church was in charge of the service and interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery. The obituary:
John T. Ellis was born November 25, 1856 at Salisbury, Mo., and passed from this life at the home of his daughter in Lawrence, Kansas, Nov. 22, 1940 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 27 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Powers in 1877 while yet in Missouri. To this union seven children were born, two daughters and five sons.
In 1881 the family moved to Jewell City, Kansas and thence to Oberlin, Kansas in 1884 from which, they moved to Superior, Nebraska in 1910, residing here for two years then returning to Kansas, making their, home in Lawrence. While in Oberlin, Kansas, Mr. Ellis joined the Methodist Church, transferring his membership to Superior, where it has remained since.
His beloved wife preceded him in death, passing away May 5, 1921 as did the eldest son, Edward, who passed away in 1932.
He leaves to mourn their loss, four sons and two daughters, Earnest of Inglewood, Colo,
Mrs.Beulah Crawford of Superior, Mrs.Sadie Anderson of Lawrence, Kansas, Charlie of Bend, Oregon, Glenn of Lawrence, Kansas and Alvin of St. Louis, Mo., also seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, together with a host of friends.
He was a faithful husband and a good father, and won the respect and affection of all who came to know him.
