Henry Ellis was a Union soldier in the Civil War. The Painter Creek Battle occurred in Macon County, Missouri on August 8, 1862. Henry enlisted two days later on August 10, 1862 at Hudson, Missouri, rank: Private, in 27th Regiment Infantry Volunteers (Missouri), Company A. Henry was mustered on September 4, 1862 to B. Brks, MO (Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri).
From the record of the 1863 Pension Case of Henry's widow, Eliza (Bell) Ellis; The story seemed to be that Henry Ellis had contracted a sickness while in the service of his duty. The Regiment Surgeon didn't think he could recover, so he gave permission to John Ellis (1795-1879), Henry's dad, to take him from the hospital to his home in Macon County, Missouri. Within a few miles of his home, Henry died at the home of his brother, Isaac Ellis, in Macon, Macon County, Missouri on or about October 31, 1862. I have not yet found burial information for Henry Ellis.
Calvin Preston Ellis: In the census years of 1900, 1910, and 1920 his occupation was listed as Blacksmith. He married Mary Elizabeth 'Molly' Miller (daughter of Tobias Miller and Martha Jane Thomas) on December 14, 1887 in Chariton County, Missouri . They had seven children; Ivy V, Leary I, Everett H, Nellie M, Archie L, Paul L, and Harvey C.
According to Harvey Ellis, a son of Calvin Preston Ellis and Mary Elizabeth 'Molly' Miller, most of the family graves (in the cemetery) do not have stones. Calvin is supposed to be buried beside Mary Elizabeth 'Molly' (Miller) Ellis. Next to them is Ivan Wayne Ellis, baby of Calvin/Mary's son, Harvey. Next to Ivan is Alma (Hammond), who was married to Leary Ellis, son of Calvin/Mary.
