James Morlan

James Henry Morlan, 77, of Pollock, Missouri lost his battle with a severe illness on Saturday evening, December 22, 2007 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of Roy Bennett and Ethel Leota (Altiser) Morlan, he was born April 5, 1930 in Sullivan County near Pollock. On November 30, 1968 at Newtown, Missouri he married Sallie Zoë Adlesperger and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Annabeth Hodge of Kansas City, Kansas and Jamie Morlan of Queen City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Dustin Hodge of Hamilton, New Jersey, Bryan Hodge stationed at Ft. Sam, Houston, Texas and Jasamine Hodge of north Kansas City, Missouri; three brothers, Raymond Morlan and wife Joyce of Eldora, Iowa, Fred Morlan and wife Kay of Kirksville, Missouri, and Don Morlan and wife Anita of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Virginia Worsfold of Marshalltown, Iowa, Ruby Hartkee of Des Moines, Iowa, Margaret Smith of Pollock, Missouri, and Olive Saner of Unionville, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Alvita McPherson and Geraldine Higgason; and one brother, Wayne Morlan in infancy.

James was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County where he was a farmer at heart and worked at the glove factory in Kirksville and Chillicothe. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U. S. Navy in Korea and Japan. In 1976 he was baptized at the Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville. He enjoyed many past times which included hunting, fishing and gardening but he most favored being a father and grandfather. He will be missed.

Funeral services were held 1:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2007 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan with Pastors Russell and Deborah Waugh officiating. Music was provided by Jack and Tobe Smith. Interment was in the Scobee Cemetery at Pollock with Military Rites at graveside by American Legion Post 228 in Milan. Casket bearers were Scott Morlan, Stacy Chapman, Tracy Morlan, Eddy Flynn, Phillip Seavey, and Rob Day. Honorary bearers were Max Seavey, Chuck Worsfold, Joe Handley, and Vaughn Meyers. The family has suggested contributions in his memory be given to the Scobee Cemetery or the Pollock Community Center
