Margaret Handley-Smith, daughter of Roy Bennett and Ethel Leota (Altiser) Morlan was born on May 29, 1934 in Pollock, Missouri. She passed away peacefully at the Milan Health Care Facility in Milan, Missouri on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the age of 79.

Margaret was married to Joe Thomas Handley of Green City, MO on July 16, 1949 and shortly after moved to central Iowa. There she worked for Kiowa Corporation, as a school cook, and as an upholster. "Marge" loved being active, her passions included fishing, gardening, arranging flowers, cooking, decorating, blue grass music, and hunting for the elusive moral mushroom. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She's survived by her three children: Joe David (Rhea) Handley, Doris "Dorie" Jean (Herb) Tschudy, and Darlene Kay Vice. She had four grandchildren: Steven, Jennifer, Patie, and Douglas. She also had twelve great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Maggie, Rachel, Codi, Ashley, Dustin, Olivia, Seth, Austin, Julian, Scott, and Sydney. She had two surviving siblings, Fred (Kay) Morlan and Don (Anita) Morlan of Columbus, OH.

After retirement Margaret and her husband Joe purchased a dairy farm in Minnesota. Only a few short years later they were struck with tragic news, her husband Joe had a severe brain tumor. They sold the farm and moved back to north central Missouri to be close to their beloved family. Joe and Margaret lived together for many years following Joe's sickness, but eventually Joe passed away thirteen years after his initial diagnosis.

Many years later Margaret found a new companion and married Clarence "Buck" Smith of Carrollton, MO on September 5, 1998. In Pollock near friends and family, Buck restored a house for the two them to enjoy and call home. Together they shared a love for blue grass music. They found joy traveling, playing, and attending blue grass music events. However, Buck suffered an untimely death in April 2005.

Later, Margaret found a new special friend and companion John Brummit of Lemons, MO. They shared good times and bad, but in March 2013 Margaret, being unable to care for herself, found a place where she could get the quality help she needed, Milan Health Care Facility in Milan, Missouri. There John would visit her several days a week and they would visit and share the joy of living.

Margaret is proceed in death by her parents, Roy and Ethyl Morlan, eight of her siblings: Wayne Morlan (infant), Virginia Worsfold, Ruby Hartke, Loretta Alvita McPherson, Thelma Geraldine Higgason, James Morlan, Ray Morlan, and Olive Saner.

Margaret was a beautiful, loving, and classy woman. We will remember her genuine smile and the twinkle in her eye. She has touched the hearts of all of those who have met her, and she will be missed by every one of them.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at the Scobee Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
