Death came Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7:40 to Lincoln Akers, 91, retired farmer and pioneer resident of Audubon county. Mr. Akers, who had been in failing health for several years died at his home in Oakfield.
The son of Ralph and Teresa King Akers, he was born in Johnson county and had lived in Audubon county since coming here when he was two years old.
He was married to Mary B. Harris of Lewis and the couple observed their 64th wedding anniversary in July.
Twelve of the couple's 14 children survive, also with the widow, 35 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, Robert and Sylvia preceded their father in death.
The surviving children are Otto, Byron, Trilby, Harold, Frank, Lewis and Alvie Akers and Mrs. Dave Schwarting of Exira, Mrs. Walter Brown of Grand Coulee, Wash.; Mrs. Edd Stager of Oakfield, Mrs. Clyde Heck of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Winona Kessering of Ridgeway, Colo.
Last rites were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Brayton Baptist church with the Rev. Ronald Abbas officiating.
Music for the services was by Mrs. Lester Nelson, pianist, who also accompanied the vocalists, Mrs. Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Henry Hansen as the sang, "Rock of Ages" and "Going Down the Valley."
Casket bearers were grandsons – Gary, Myron, Larry, Robert, Dalbert and Harold F Akers.
Interment was in the Oakfield cemetery with Corl's in charge.
