Mitchell J. Sluder, 81, of Leicester, died at 12:25 a.m. Sunday in an Asheville hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Sluder was born May 1, 1880, in Alexander, a son of the late Jack and Minnie Hawkins Sluder, a retired farmer.

He was married to the former Miss Minnie Rogers, who died in 1947.

He was a member of the Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Walter Radcliff of Swannanoa, with whom he had made his home for the past two years; Mrs. Clell Silvers of Swannanoa; Mrs. Claude Parris, Mrs. Dwight Ballard and Mrs Herman Fender of Asheville, Mrs. Herman Bridges and Mrs. Wade Shelton of Leicester.

Also six sons, Roy Sluder of Hendersonville, Charlie Sluder of Enka, Clyde Sluder of Marshall, Floyd Sluder of Asheville, and William and Kenneth Sluder of Leicester; one brother, Gaston Sluder of Asheville, two sisters, Mrs. Joanna Sluder and Mrs. Arrie Ball of Asheville; 47 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
