Henry was the son of Frederick and Rebecca Clark Kuster, and was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1861. His father, Frederick, died at some unknown time during the Civil War, and his mother, Rebecca Kuster, moved her family of three children close to her husband's family in Richland Co, IL. Henry lived in Richland and Jasper Counties, IL, until he moved to Vincennes IN and worked in the railroad yard.

In Vincennes he met and married his wife Bettie E. Maves in 1883. Henry and Bettie had nine children: Lida Mae (1884), Mary Rebecca (1886), Gladys (1888), Nellie (1890), Corrie Nelson (1893), Henry Lester (1895), Sarah Jane (1897), Mamie Rae (1907), and James Clark (1907).

The Kuster family made their way from Indiana to Colorado by way of Oklahoma, and arrived in the Denver area sometime between 1910 and 1913. Henry worked for a short time as a "barnman" at the Mt. St. Vincent's Home (4159 Lowell Blvd.) in Denver. Henry died in 1918.
