Henry Lester was the sixth child of Henry and Bettie Maves Kuster. He was born in Illinois, then later moved with his parents to Oklahoma, then to Colorado, where they were living by 1913.
In June 1914 Henry enlisted in the Army from Ft Logan Colorado, and served as a wagoner with the 1st Ammunition Train. He was discharged August 1919 at Ft Bliss, Texas.
Henry married Alice Theresa Donahoe in 1925, and they had five children.
