CLAY CENTER – Ruby Deines Hoyt of Clay Center died Friday, July 28, 1989, at Harvard Rest Haven at the age of 91.
Services were held July 31 at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center with Fred Lohman and Stephen Deines as the officiating clergymen. Music was provided by Linda Doele, vocalist, ad Alorice Jaeger, Pianist and Organist. Casket bearers were David Hoyt, Brian Hoyt, Bob VonSpreckelsen, Scott Hoyt, Max Northrop, and Bert VonSpreckelsen. Interment was in the Clay Center Cemetery.
She was born September 18, 1897, to William and Alvina (Schroeder) Deines. Mrs. Hoyt graduated from Clay Center High School, and taught rural schools around Clay Center for a few years. She married Henry J. Hoyt on March 3, 1921, in Clay Center. They farmed near Clay Center until 1933 when they moved to Clay Center where they owned and operated a dairy until 1954. That year, Mr. Hoyt was elected sheriff of Clay County and served in that position for nine years. They retired in 1963.
She was a homemaker and a member of the United Church of Christ. Has been a resident of the Harvard Rest Haven for the past three years.
Mrs. Hoyt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry who died October 2, 1971; her son, Donald L. (Rusty) Hoyt, who died in 1978; and two brothers, Harold and Roland Deines.
She is survived by her sons: William and his wife Donna of Omaha, and Lowell and his wife Marabel of Lincoln; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Northrop of Clay Center, and Mrs. Adella Harrell of El Segundo, CA; one brother, Willis Deines of Harlingen, Tx; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
