Marriage ended upon death of Mary
==================================
Obit in The Sioux Valley News, 21 September 1900, page 1: William Castle died Friday evening, September 14, 1900, at his residence in Correctionville. He was born in Spencer Township, Tioga Co., New York, on August 25, 1817, and lived on a farm with his parents until the age of 19 when they emigrated to Erie Co., Pennsylvania, where they lived eighteen years. At the age of 22 he was appointed postmaster at West Springfield under President Harrison and held office until the end of that administration. In August 1841 he went back to New York and married Mary Whiting. He quit farming and established a broom factory in Erie County. This work continued eleven years until Mrs. Castle died in 1852. Shortly after his wife's death he moved to Potter Co., Pennsylvania, and ran a hardware for a couple of years. There in 1855 he married Melissa Lewis. The next year they moved to Buffalo Grove, Buchanan Co., Iowa. Mr. Castle entered government service there, serving four years under President Lincoln. He came to Correctionville in 1872. He was engaged in various businesses here - speculated in land, owned a drug store, tin shop and undertaking establishment. Mr. Castle had a vigorous constitution but a protracted sick spell two years ago left him somewhat broken. About two weeks ago he was attacked by dysentery which caused his death Friday evening, September 14, 1900, at the age of 89 years, 18 days. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Methodist church with Rev. T.S. Cole officiating. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery.
