Mrs. Buck Dies In Local Hospital

Her many Clifton friends learned with sincere sorrow of the death of Mrs. D. M. Buck, 87, at 5:08 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, November 13, in the local hospital, where she had been a patient since October 13.

For many years Mrs. Buck resided at 114 South Avenue E in Clifton. She became a resident of Luther Hall at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home on September 16, 1963, and continued to make her home there until she was taken to the hospital last month.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Buck Buck was born at Pipe Creek, not far from Bandera, on December 19, 1877, and also was reared in that community. It was in 1903 that she was married to Daniel Manderfield Buck, and one son, D. M. was born to their union.

Mr. and Mrs. Buck moved to Clifton on June 29, 1904, and spent nearly all of the remaining years of their lifetimes in this city. Mr. Buck was a jeweler and watch repairman and operated a jewelry shop here until his death in 1936.

During her active years Mrs. Buck participated in numerous church and civic activities in Clifton. She became a member of the Baptist Church at the age of 20 years and was a conscientious member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton during her long residence in this city. Although she particularly was active in the Woman's Missionary Union of her church, she also took part in all of her church's endeavors.

Mrs. Buck for many years was an active member of the Clifton Civic Improvement Society. She was an excellent cook, and her angel food cakes at weddings and other occasions were famous for a number of years. When she was a younger woman, Mrs. Buck often was asked to serve as chaperon for youth parties, for she had an excellent sense of humor and was well-loved and respected by everyone. Mrs. Buck also was a wonderful neighbor and a loyal friend.

Surviving Mrs. Buck are her one son, Daniel M. Buck, of Grand Prairie; three granddaughters, Mrs. Robert S. Burton, of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Donald L. Caruth, of Dallas, and Mrs. Jimmy L. Weaver, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren. She was one of ten children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, November 14, at the First Baptist Church in Clifton and were conducted by the pastor, Reverend Clay L. Burns.
