Dan W. Buck, Aged 71, Dies After Long Illness

Dan W. Buck, aged 71 years, died at his home in Bandera Wednesday morning after a lingering illness covering several months. Graveside services were conducted at the Pipe Creek cemetery yesterday afternoon by Rev. W.H. Price of Medina, and Rev. S.H. Culpepper of San Antonio. Pallbearers were B.F. Langford, Jr., Henry Lewis, Charles Meadows, C.B. Corley, Judge A.V. Pue, and Jim Power. Interment was in Pipe Creek cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Plummer Funeral Home.

The survivors include four children, three sons, Earl, Olan and Graydon Buck, and one daughter, Mrs. Merle Fitzgerald; two brothers, Walter Buck of Pipe Creek and Robert Buck of Bandera; four sisters, Mrs. Harriett Newcomer of Pipe Creek, Mrs. Laura Callahan of Houston, Mrs. Mamie Buck of Junction, and Mrs. Cora Mansfield of Bandera. There are several grandchildren.

Daniel William Buck was born at Pipe Creek, Bandera county, January 31, 1876, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Buck, Sr., early settlers of that community. At the time of his death he was 71 years, 12 days old. He was married to Miss Emma Dorow, who passed away April 1, 1940. Mr. Buck had lived in Bandera county all of his life, and was one of the best men of this section. He was quiet, industrious, law abiding and had the respect and high regard of everyone who knew him. For many years he was a faithful member of the Baptist church, and he lived his religion every day. After his wife's death he moved from Pipe Creek to Bandera and purchased property here. He built a substantial residence on the corner of Fourteenth Hackberry and Street, and when his health failed a year or two ago, his son, Olan Buck, and family, came to occupy the new home and take care of him. For the past two months he was confined to his bed, the insidious ailment gradually sapping his life away, but through it all, knowing that the time of his departure was near, he was cheerful, with an abiding faith in the Heavenly Father's tender mercies, and when the final summons came he was ready and prepared to go.

Bandera county lost a most valuable citizen when Dan Buck died. In the Pipe Creek community, where he had lived so many years, he was a constructive force, always working for the up-building and betterment of that community. He served as a school trustee there for many years. And when he moved to Bandera some years ago he served as a school trustee in this community. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend. We shall miss him, but the good deeds he performed and the influence that he exerted here will not soon pass away. To the bereaved family the Bulletin extends condolence and sympathy.
