WALTER BUCK LAID TO REST AT PIPE CREEK MONDAY

Another of Bandera's oldest and most esteemed citizens was called to his reward when Walter Buck died at his home in Pipe Creek early Friday, April 17, 1959, following a long illness.

Walter Buck was born in Victoria on March 21, 1872, to Ebenezer Buck Sr., and his wife, Mary Ralston Buck. He came to Bandera county 86 years ago and had resided in the Pipe Creek community most of the time, where as a boy he herded sheep, worked as a day laborer on farms, burned charcoal and grew up the hard way. For a time when a young man, Mr. Buck worked in the oil fields in Mexico. He was a cowboy on the famous Quein Sabe Ranch and in 1892 made a trip up the trail to Kansas. He homesteaded in New Mexico but finally came back to Pipe Creek and bought his home and settled there for the rest of his life.

On October 22, 1895, he was married to Miss Ida Chipman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Chipman, and they raised three children, two boys and a girl. His wife passed away on January 26,1907. On December 31, 1913, he married Miss Katie Larmann at Kicaster, in Wilson county, and they had one daughter, Mrs. Adolph Stricker, of Bandera. Mr. Buck was a member of the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Funeral services were conducted at Plummer Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 20, at 2 p.m., with Elder Wayne E. Simmons, minister for the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of San Antonio, officiating, and burial was in the Pipe Creek cemetery under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home of Bandera. Pallbearers were Ed Welch, J. J. Adams, John Heinen, E. S. Jennings, Howard Ruede and Hubert Rohrbach.

Mr. Buck's survivors are his wife, Mrs. Katie Buck of Pipe Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Adolph Stricker of Bandera, Mrs. Laura Walsh of Sherman Oaks, California; two sons, Walter B. Buck of Koshkonong, Missouri, and Frank Buck of Fontana, California; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Buck of Clifton, Texas, and Mrs. Ed Mansfield of Bandera and Austin, Texas; one brother, R. E. Buck of Bandera; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Out of town relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to the esteemed gentleman were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Buck of Koshkonong, Missouri; Miss Katherine Stricker of Independence, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Deryl Buck and children of Salina, Kansas; ...(obit goes on to individually list an additional 69 persons attending from out of town).
