Mr. Gutshall was afflicted with pleurisy for several weeks, but the disease only took a serious turn a week ago. From that time on he grew constantly worse, until death relieved his sufferings. He was for a number of terms school director of North Middleton township, and for three years Director of the Poor of Cumberland county (sic).

Deceased is survived by a wife and eight children, as follows: Wilson, Alfred, Fred and Miss Ida Gutshall, Mrs. John Myers, all of near Carlisle Springs, Mrs. William Jacobs, of Mt. Holly Springs; Mrs. Chester C. Lutz, of Boiling Springs, and Mrs Benjamin Hosler, Jr, of Carlisle. He was one of North Middleton township's prominent citizens, and for many years resided at the place he died. He was a consistent member of the Reformed church (sic) of Carlisle Springs. He was a brother of Leonard Gutshall, of Carlisle Springs, and of John Gutshall, of the same place, who died some years ago.
