Mrs. Sarah May Evans, 88, of 116 North Highland, was pronounced dead on arrival at Mt. Carmel Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. She had been in ill health for several years and had returned to her home recently following a stay of three weeks at Mt. Carmel.
Born April 29, 1879, in Elk City, Kansas, Mrs. Evans lived for many years at Moline, Kansas, moving from there to Columbus. She came to Pittsburg in 1921 and had lived there since that time.
She was married in 1900 in Columbus to Charles F. Evans, who died in 1946.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the First Christian Church and of the Spanish American War Auxiliary.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Scroggins, Girard; Mrs. Pauline Davis, of the home here; Mrs. Elmer Ports, 118 North Highland; and Mrs. Red [sic] Davidson, Lakeland, Florida; and five sons, Mike Evans and Glen B. Evans, both of Sacramento, California; Harold Evans of the Pittsburg home; Bill Evans, rural Pittsburg; and Joe Evans, Lexington, Massachusetts.
Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert H. Boyte officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Brenner Chapel tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
