Susan Ports, 83, formerly of 118 North Highland, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 1991, at the Cedar View Nursing Home in Wellington, Kansas. She had been ill for the past two years and had lived in Wellington for 18 months.

Mrs. Ports was born on May 20, 1908, in Roseland, Kansas, to Charles Fletcher and Sarah Mae Lewis Evans. She attended schools in Columbus and came to Pittsburg as a young girl. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1929 and also from the Pittsburg Business College. She worked for a short time for the August Rua Insurance Company and was a homemaker.

She married Elmer C. Ports on May 26, 1934, in Pittsburg, He preceded her in death, in 1986.

Membership was held in the First Christian Church, the Rob Morris Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and was a former member of the White Shrine and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include one son, David Eugene Ports of Chanute; one daughter, Patsy McNett of Wellington; one sister, Thelma Scroggins of Girard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Charles M., Glen B., Harold L., Joseph R., and Willard A. Evans; and two sisters, Pauline Winegarner and Dorothy Davidson.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories with Dr. Wayne Black and the Rev. Diann Morris of the First Christian Church officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Beauchamp, Milford Brown, Leo Boisdrenghien, A. E. McClarrinon, Charles Peterson, and Frank Bettega. The funeral procession will leave the Brenner Chapel at 10:10 a.m. for the graveside services.
