Urban Gruber, age 70, a resident of Pierz, MN, died March 25, 1991 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Funeral services will be held April 1, 1991 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Robert Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Lastrup.

Urban was born in Agram Township on November 5, 1920 to the late Joseph and Barbara (Lochner) Gruber. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to serving in the U.S. Army from October 1942 to January 1946. He married Viola Kasper on November 29, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. They farmed in Granite Township until retiring in 1985 where they moved to Pierz. Urban was an active member of the American Legion of Pierz and Knights of Columbus Council of Pierz. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved farming.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; sons, Wilfred of Lastrup, Dan and wife Kimberly, Joe, John and wife Carrie, all of Pierz; daughter, Mrs. Oliver (Virginia) Kaloi of Wahiawa, Hawaii and Marilyn Gruber of St. Cloud; a brother, Simon Gruber of Merrifield; sisters, Mrs. Phillip (Edith) Tretter of Lastrup, Mrs. Herman (Esther) Langer of Bayport, MN, Mrs. Leonard (Eleanore) Kasper of Pierz and Mrs. Elmer (Caroline) Sadlowsky of Upsala and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
