Joseph Gruber

Funeral services were held Monday in St. Joseph's church, Pierz, for Joseph Gruber, 80, who died in St. Gabriel's hospital Friday.

He had been a resident of Pierz since 1946, prior to which time he farmed in Agram and Granite townships. He had served as treasurer of his school district for many years.

Mr. Gruber was born in Agram township, Jan. 8, 1880, attended school in Pierz, and on Oct. 24, 1905, was married to Barbara Lochner. She survives him, with the following sons and daughters: Alfonse, Flint, Mich.; Carl, Urban and Mrs. Leonard Kasper (Eleanore), Pierz; Simon, Albert Lea; Mrs. Elmer Sadlowsky (Caroline), Upsala; Mrs. Albert Dietz (Lucy), Little Falls; Mrs. Phillip Tretter (Edith), Lastrup; Mrs. Herman Langer (Esther), No. St. Paul. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Gruber, Genola, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Bayerl, Mrs. Matt Millner and Mrs. Alfred Herold, Pierz; 38 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Richard Leisen, with Rev. Patrick Thompson and Rev. Robert Voigt as deacon and sub-deacon. Pallbearers were Richard Millner, Alfred Gruber, Melvin Gruber, Carl Lochner, Robert Bayerl and Clarence Herold, all nephews of Mr. Gruber. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
