Graveside Service: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 10:00am in the Forsyth Cemetery

Robert Batey passed away after a long illness Sunday, August 17, 2008 at his home in Forsyth, MT with his loving family by his side.

Robert was born January 21, 1934 in Miles City, MT to John and Harriet Batey. Born and raised on Rosebud Creek, he worked on the home ranch until 1967. He attended and graduated from school in Rosebud, MT. Robert married Dorie Niedge On October 11, 1952. He worked at the Western Cattle Company, the Hook Ranch and then the Diamond Ranch for Newell Philbrick. He then helped his son Randy on the L7 Ranch during the summer and fall until the time of his death.

Robert loved gardening, ranching, cutting firewood, bow hunting, riding good horses and looking at cows. He enjoyed trapping with good friend Starr Plympton and shooting the breeze with his buddy Jim Chandler. He loved being with all his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of his life. He was a hard worker and lived to work, always wanting to be outside doing something. If he said he would do something for you it would always get done. He never needed an alarm clock to get up to get his work done on time. He always had a kind word and a loving heart and would find humorous words in the good times and bad times to lighten the mood. He will be so dearly missed by so many, especially his family. We love you Dad.

Robert is survived by his son Randy (DeeDee) Batey of Forsyth, his daughter Becky (Mark) Zimmerman of Billings, his grandchildren Shannon, Chad, Jon, Kasey and Levi, 9 great grandchildren and his sister Carol Breeden. Other survivors include Barry and Donna Niedge, Donnie and Marion Niedge, Mike and Linda Niedge, Jim and Phyllis Martin, Anita Pearl, Ev Batey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorie, his brother Don and parents John and Harriet.
