Nathaniel was the son of Nathaniel R. Hickman, Sr., and Elizabeth Waring Canon Hickman (Stainer).
He married Dovie Harrell on Feb. 3, 1918, in Polk Co., Tx.
They were the parents of five sons and one daughter.

OBITUARY FROM THE POLK COUNTY ENTERPRISE: Nathaniel R. Hickman
LIVINGSTON--Funeral services for Nathaniel R. Hickman, 94, of Leggett were held at 2 p.m. in the Pace Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Emmett Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Pine Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Hickman died Aug. 24 in Livingston Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1886 near Moscow the son of the late Nathaniel and Elizabeth Hickman, Sr. He was a lifetime resident of Polk County and had been engaged in farming most of his life. He had resided in the Leggett Community for the past 37 years. He was married to Miss Dovie H. Harrell on Feb. 3, 1918 in the Soda Community. He was a member of the Leggett Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dovie H. Hickman of Leggett; five sons, Rufus Hickman and Jimmy Hickman, both of Leggett, LeRoy Hickman of Houston, Val. D. Hickman of Silsbee, and Dempsey Hickman of Livingston; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Harris of El Paso; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Bryan Hickman, Jimmy Hickman, Phillip Harris, Richard Hickman and Jerry Hickman.
