Mildred Ruth Adams Merritt, 96, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2005 in Waco, Texas. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at Centuries Memorial Park on Thursday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m., with Dr. Scott Tatum, former pastor of Broadmoor Baptist Church and longtime family friend, officiating. Visitation will take place at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24.

A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Merritt was born August 16, 1909. She was a devoted wife for 54 years to her late husband, Rev. Jack Merritt, who pastored Ingleside Baptist Church for 19 years. She worked as a registered critical care nurse in several Shreveport hospitals.

Mrs. Merritt was a loving Christian mother and grandmother whose deep, steadfast faith was a source of strength to her children and grandchildren.

She leaves behind one son, Jack T. Merritt and wife, Phyllis of Waco, Texas; two daughters, Karen Copeland of Waco, Texas, and Ruth Ann McMahan and husband, Tom, of Salado, Texas; two granddaughters, Kami Swinney and husband, Jeff, of Euless, Texas, and Kelli McMahan of Waco, Texas; three grandsons, Jeremy Copeland of Dallas, Texas, Gregory Merritt of San Antonio, Texas, and Travis Merritt of Waco, Texas. Mrs. Merritt is also survived by one sister, Emma Herrington, of Sharon, Mississippi, and four brothers: J.W. Adams, Robert Adams, and Randolph Adams of Sharon, Mississippi, and Theodore Adams of Irving, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Jack Merritt, and three sisters: Essie Johnson, Inez Ulmer, and Eola Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Sharon First Baptist Church Building Fund, 4375 Sharon Rd., Laurel, Mississippi, 39443.
