Robert Dillard Adams, 86, of Laurel, died on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sharon First Baptist Church in Jones County. Burial will in be Sharon Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Doggett will officiate.

He was a retired farmer and member of Sharon First Baptist Church. He helped build the original church and held many positions of leadership throughout his years of service in his church. He was a master troop leader of Boy Scout Troop #34 for 27 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances G. Adams; two grandchildren, Jessica Ann Adams and Robert Cory Adams; a great-grandchild, Jacie Lauren Sellers; and four sisters, Mildred Merritt, Essie Johnson, Eola Hill and Inez Ulmer.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Dell Adams of Laurel; children and their spouses, Carolyn and Johnny Burnett, David and Diane Adams, Mark and Rena Adams, Kenny and Julia Adams, Buddy and Dean Akerman , Jerry and Beth Akerman , all of Laurel, Beverly and Robert Hodge of Taylorsville, and Tracy and Angie Adams of Soso; three brothers, J.W. Adams and Randolph Adams, both of Laurel and Theodore Adams of Irving, Texas; a sister, Emma Herrington of Laurel; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Ron Gavin, Roy Gavin, Jonathan Odom, Justin Adams, Jason Adams, Nathan Adams, Jared Akerman , Clint Akerman , Shane Akerman and Ramey Akerman .

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel which is in charge of arrangements
