William U. Carbaugh, 61, Hanover, formerly of New Oxford, died suddenly Monday evening in Ellicott City, during a snow storm.
Mr. Carbaugh with members of his family motored to Washington D.C. Sunday to see his daughter, Sister Geniva Maria. on the return trip the party ran into a snow storm. At Ellicott City Mr. Carbaugh stopped to place chains on the rear wheels. It was while he was in the act of placing the chains that he was stricken. He was placed in his automobile and expired 10 minutes later.
A son of the late H.W and Catherine Carbaugh, of Berlin Junction, the deceased leaves his widow, Mrs. Salome Rutter Carbaugh; 12 children, Mrs. Francis Weirman, McSherrystown; Mrs. Albert Kaelher, Hanover; Mark Carbaugh, McSherrystown; Warren and Bernard Carbaugh, Hanover; Clinton Carbaugh, address unknown; George Carbaugh, York; Sister Geniva Maria, Washington S.C.; Joseph Carbaugh, California; Technical Sergeant Ralph Carbaugh, Phillipine Islands' Mary Ann and Particia at home, Five brothers Joseph, Frank and John Carbaugh New Oxford, Stanislaus Carbaugh, Chambersburg; Alphonsus Carbaugh, Lancaster; Four sisters, Mrs. Charles Shrader, New Oxford,; Mrs. George Munchel, York; Sister Eusecius, Shelton, and Dorothy, Philadelphia, and 18 grandchildren.
This Thursday morning a requiem mass will be conducted in St. Vincent's Catholc Church, Midway. The rector, the Rev. Mark P. McElwee, will be celebrant. Internment will be made in St.Mary's Cemetery, New Oxford.
The deceased had been employed for the past sixteen years by Bargelt & Son, Hanover plumbing, heating and sheet metal contractors.
