John Dowty was born in Claremont Twp, Richland Co, IL to Abraham and Mary Ann Abbuhl Dowty. He married Laura Alice Groff on May 4, 1899. They had 6 children, 4 lived. Elmer John Dowty, Sylvia Alice Little, Gifford Gene Dowty, Matilda A Hammack. John died in Carnegie, Caddo , Ohlahoma.

John A Dowty was born November 7, 1875, in Olney, Richland county, IL. He was married to Laura A. Groff in 1899.
He and his family moved to this country in 1906, settling on a farm near Colony. A niece, Thelma Groff, now Mrs. Elwood Reynolds, came to make her home with them in 1915. The family later lived north of Carnegie where Melvin Little lived.
He entered business at Oak Dale on Highway 152 several years ago. After retiring, he made his home at Yukon with Mrs. Reynolds and family.
He had been a member of the Methodist church since 14 years of age.
Children- two infant daughters who died at birth; a son, Gifford died in 1961; a son, Elmer Dowty of Eakly, Mrs. R.J. Little of Alfalfa, Mrs. Dean Hammoch of Pinkneyville, Ill.
