Jessie "Marie" Underwood Arnett, 82, of Athens, died Wednesday morning, May 5, 2004, at NHC Healthcare of Athens.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Minnie Malone Underwood, and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Horton's Drug Store and Revco Drug Store and retired from the school cafeteria at Riceville Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Arnett; one sister, Edna Holder; one brother, Hubert Underwood; and one special nephew, Bobby Womac.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Rothwell of Decatur; four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Gail Arnett, Paul and Pat Arnett and Jerry and Alfreda Arnett, all of Athens, and Ronnie and Johnnie Arnett of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer "Curley" and Betty Underwood of Clayton, N.C., and Prois and Verda Underwood of Albany, Ore.; one sister, Helen Womac of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Creasman and the Rev. Stan Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Broderick, Blake, Bryan and Chris Arnett, Bob Rothwell and Wayne Malone.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
