Helen Elizabeth Underwood Womac, 83, of Athens, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, and a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Malone Underwood, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Womac, on Feb. 22, 2000; one son, Bobby Womac; two sisters, Edna Mae Holder and Marie Arnett; and two brothers, Prois Underwood and Hubert Underwood. She was a lifelong member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, and was a former employee of Van Raalte Hosiery Mill and Athens Stove Works.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dewey Sizemore of Athens; one daughter-in-law, Louise Womac of Cleveland; one brother, the Rev. Elmer Underwood of Clayton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Tracey Neely and husband, Kenneth, Ricky Womac, Nicole Womac, Amy Veals and husband, Tracey, Kristi Self, Whitney Gray and husband, Jason, Detrick Sizemore, Peyton Sizemore and wife, Alicia Robison Sizemore, Blayton Womac, Kai'lee Womac and Tayla Womac; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger, Pastor Dorothy Hanson and the Rev. Jack Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Detrick Sizemore, Peyton Sizemore, Blayton Womac, Jason Gray, Bobby Rothwell and Larry Arnett.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
