Prois Maynard 'Woody' Underwood
June 26, 1919 - Sept. 10, 2007

Woody Underwood died Monday at Quail Run Assisted Living at the Mennonite Village.

Woody was born in Athens, Tenn., the son of Charley and Minnie (Malone) Underwood. He attended schools in Athens.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and acquired the trades of carpentry through special duties with the Corps of Engineers.

Woody was an accomplished journeyman carpenter and a plywood worker for South West Forest Industries. He was a member of the South Albany Community Church.

Survivors include wife Verda D. Krug-Underwood; sons Prois Alton Underwood of Nashville, Tenn., Ronald L. Underwood of Athens, and Ray H. Bidwell of Albany; daughter Carol F. Ferguson of Tallulah, La.; brother Rev. Elmer Underwood of Clayton, N.C.; sister Helen Womac of Athens; numerous grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A son, Gerald L. Underwood, preceded him in death.

Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the South Albany Community Church. Private interment will be at Willamette Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the South Albany Community Church be made in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.
