Bennie Gee Thomas was born in Cherokee County, one of six children born to Ben Thomas and Lula Standard Thomas. He grew up in the Forest community near Alto, Texas. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. In 1947 he married Asta Mae Williams in Rosenberg, Texas. They had two children: Janie Nell Thomas born in 1948, and Adrianne Thomas born in 1954.
