Erick Hansen was born in November 14, 1834 at Putten farm in Hadeland, Norway to Hans Ellingson Furua and Hans's first wife Siri Olsdtr Putten (who died on May 27, 1839). On April 10, 1860 Erick married Kjersti Larsdtr Haugtvedt at Gran, Norway. They lived on the Haugtvedt farm in a small cottage. Four children were born there: Hans, Lars, Syver, and Mari. In late April, 1871 the family went to America to join other relatives already living in Fillmore Co., MN. After they arrived, Caroline and then Thorvald were born, and both were baptized at the Elstad Lutheran Church.
By 1880, Erick (now a widower) and 6 young children had moved to Tansem Township, Clay Co., MN. On November 13, 1880 Erick married Anne Bakke Tucker, a widow with several children. Erick became a naturalized citizen on September 22, 1902. Anne died in 1914.
Erick died on Sunday evening, August 2, 1920 at the home of his son Lars Haugtvedt. He was over eighty years old and had been sick only a couple of days. Death was due to old age. He is survived by three children, two sons and one daughter: Syver Haugtvedt of Greenbush, and Lars Haugtvedt and Caroline (Mrs. John) Rolli of Tansem. He was preceded in death by both his wives, his sons Thorvald and Hans and his daughter Mari. The funeral was held Friday afternoon August 7, 1920 at the North Immanuel Church. Interment was in the Church's West Cemetery.
