W. ZELLER TUCKER
---Zeller Tucker, seventy-two, died Tuesday evening as a result of injuries suffered two hours earlier in an accident at the site of the former Fifth Avenue Opera building at 5th Avenue and B Street in Arkansas City, Kansas.
---Mr. Tucker, one of the workmen engaged in raising the structure, had stepped under an elevator to put a plank underneath, when the cable came off the pulley on the winch, causing the heavily loaded elevator platform to fall on him. He was rushed to the Arkansas City Hospital for treatment but the fact that his skull was crushed in the impact, proved fatal.
---Born in Athens, Ohio March 13, 1872, the son of L.H. and Mary E. Tucker, the deceased was married March 6, 1893 at Elmer, Missouri to Miss Amelia Rozella Banning.
---He was employed for thirty-eight years and two months as a section foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad, his regular work being between La Plata, Missouri and Cardy, Missouri.
---He was retired January 1, 1939 and he and his family went to Arkansas City from Elmer last September. They had made their home there at 1007 North Summit Street.
---He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Ernest Powers at 110 East Linden Avenue; one granddaughter, Mrs. Gardner Harmon of Evansville, Indiana; a great-grandchild, Miss Judith Ann Harmon; three brothers, Mern Tucker of Atlanta, Missouri, Earl Tucker of Hurdland, Missouri and Ray Tucker of La Plata, Missouri; three sisters, Mrs. Maud Smith of Excello, Missouri, Mrs. Ida Wood of La Plata and Mrs. Bertha Keithley of La Plata. A sister, Joanne Vose, preceded him in death December 21, 1935.
---The deceased had retained his membership in the Baptist church at Gorin, Missouri.
---Funeral services were held at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at the Brant Funeral Home at Arkansas City, with Rev. Herbert T. Beatty, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
---Two brothers, Mern Tucker of Atlanta, Missouri and Earl Tucker of Hurdland, Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Jeff Wood and Mrs. Clarence Keithley, both of La Plata, Missouri; one nephew, Bernis Wood, wife and son, Rex of Maryville, Missouri; one very close friend, Mrs. John Hayden of La Plata, attended the funeral.
