Bertha Ballard

Bertha Ballard, 95, Ames, died Monday of congestive heart failure at Riverside Manor Nursing Home, Ames. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home, Ames. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Bertha Brown was born in Cambridge to James and Margaret (Zook) Brown. She was a lifetime resident of Story County. On Nov. 3, 1911, she married John G. Ballard. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1958.
Survivors include six daughters, Marjorie Larson and Doris Sampson, both of Ames, Hazel Rowland of Princton, Mo., Velma Warner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Waneta Lewis of Weldon and Joyce Strahl of Indianapolis, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Ballard on Oct. 27, 1985; and two daughters, Opal Wilkie in 1986 and Wanda Ballard in 1932.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 29, after 4 p.m., with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home.
