Mrs. Mary Carter Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hugh Peden Carter, born December 8 1880, daughter of the late James Hugh Peden and Nancy Caroline Peden, who died Friday morning in the Houston Hospital were held at the Friendship Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.

The Rev. Robert F Clayman, pastor, officiated with Rev. L P Jumper of Houston and Rev. Leland C Jorgenson of Aliceville, Alabama, assisting. Kilgore-Norman Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Carter was reared in the Friendship community where she taught school for a number of years. She and Mr. Carter have been making their home with their daughter, Mrs. Dan Thomas and Mr. Thomas. Mrs. Carter, an influential and cheerful Christian, a member of the Friendship Presbyterian church, suffered a heart attack Monday afternoon and was rushed to the Houston Hospital.

Surviving are her husband, M A Carter, Sr., five children, Edward Carter of Kosciusko, Hugh Thomas Carter of Okolona, Major M A Carter, Jr., Scott Field, St. Louis, Mrs. M G Ashby, Jr., of Van Vleet, Mrs. Dan Thomas of Houston, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Armis Hawkins, Gus Ashby, R S Ashby, W E Clements, Charles Miller, Howard Ray, Kimball Blissard and Joe Hugh Thomas.
