Private 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Oct 1, 1861 to September 16, 1864. Lived in Wisconsin until 1878, moved to round Mound, Osborne Co., Kansas for four years, in May 1883 moved to Harrison, Ark. He remained there until his death.
Rev. Joseph Armitage

Dies suddenly of paralysis, has been a citizen of Harrison 32 years. Following close upon a stroke of paralysis sustained Tuesday night from which he never recovered consciousness Elder Joseph Armitage passed away at 1 O'clock Thursday morning, aged 71 years. he was active as usual up to within a few hours of the stroke.
Deceased was a native of Rhode Island, where he was born August 1st 1843. he has been a citizen of Harrison since 1883 and was loved and respected by everyone. As a minister he has sought to advance the cause of the Master faithfully and earnestly. As a business man he has been honorable always as well as industrious and mindful of the interests of all whom he came in contact.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church Friday morning by Rev. Cummings, and burial made in the Old Cemetery.
Rev. Armitage is survived by a widow, two daughters and one son, the daughters are Mrs. T. M. Cory of Little Rock, Mrs. Minnie Foster of Harrison, the son is Shelley Armitage also of Harrison.

My brother Joseph Armitage departed this life a short time ago, he was a close bible student and preached the word as he understood it without fear or favor. His work was principally in country churches. he did much good in Boone County, but now he rests from his labors. he was 72 years of age, lacking a few months, at his death.
