Olive Louise (Meek) Riley was born in Linn City, Oregon Territory and attended the first school in Washington County. Her parents Joseph and Virginia Meek were among the earliest settlers at the Tualatin Plains (Washington County, Oregon). In 1855 at age 11 , and then in 1860 she appears in the New York state and federal censuses living as the adopted daughter of Allen and Betsy Miller at Buffalo, NY. She had traveled there with missionaries via the Isthmus of Panama to obtain an education (Judy Goldmann, pers. comm). She returned to Washington County in 1862. She married to William James Riley, originally of Missouri, on September 24, 1878. The couple had children Stanley, Katie, and Jennie Riley. Katie died in childhood.
Her siblings Hiram, A. Dallas, William H.H. Meek, and Josephine also did not survive to adulthood.
