Anna Maria or Mary Ann's (as she was called during her life) baptism took place at Klinger's Lutheran and Reformed Church, near Erdman, Dauphin county, PA. Her baptism date is extracted from the original records of that church, compiled by Irwin R. Klinger, July 31, 1987. Sponsors at her baptism were Johannes and Otillia Schralm. A "sketch" on her husband Cornelius appears in the Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphin County, Pa., 1896, by Runk & Company, publishers, pg. 1134 and 1135. She is referenced: "She (Mrs. Hoffman) was born in Lykens Twp., and married in Jackson Twp., Nov. 4, 1856, the daughter of Jeremiah and Ester Smells or (SMELTZ). When about eight years of age she removed with her parents to Washington township, where she resided until her marriage. Her funeral mourner's card noted that she was an estimable lady, a kind mother, and a faithful and loving wife; she was loved and honored by all for her many virtures. (Text Bio by Ggranddaughter, Deborah Hoffman Weiner).
