Albert, according to family members, was a mechanical genius. He served in the capacity of engineer for Bethlehem Steel Corp., in Bethlehem, PA. It is told by his nephew Dr. Darwin Hoffman, of Hanover, PA, that he invented the air brakes for the steam locomotive, but failed to get the recognition for the patent because he worked for the company who later was credited with the invention. He never married. This compiler's father, Albert, was named after him. Albert's brother Aaron Hoffman was the executor of his estate.
