Jeremiah's birth and baptism are recorded in the PA DUTCHMAN 3/1/1951, pg. 2:19:6: under BAPTISMS & MARRIAGE RECORDS in the UNGER COLLECTION IV at the Dutch Folklore Center at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA: "Hassinger, Jeraminus, son of Jeramius Hassinger & wife Elizabeth nee Bechtel, B 6 Dec. 1808 at 2 a.m. in the sign of the Crab in Centre Twp., Northumberland county, PA. Baptised 3 April 1809 by Rev. Wald(t)er and the sponsor was Jacob Bechtel. (Jacob was Jeremiah's grandfather). Jeremiah was listed as a farmer in the 1870 US PA census, living outside of Berrysburg, Mifflin Twp., Dauphin county. According to a family profile on the HASSINGERS which appeared in the Sesquicentennial Celebration booklet on Berrysburg and Mifflin Twp. in 1969, pg. 216, the Hassinger farm bordered on the west side of St. John's Lutheran Church. Jeremiah brought his family to Mifflin (now Washington) Twp., Dauphin county, around the year 1842 when his oldest daughter Mary Ann was around eight years of age. This information appeared in the history book: The Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphin County, Pa., 1896, by J.M. Runk & Publishers, pg. 1132.
