Ester was the youngest child of Andreas and Anna Maria (Waller) Smeltz. This evidence is recorded in a genealogical publication entitled: The Descendants of Andreas Schmeltz 1751-1834, compiled by G. Fisher 1995, pgs. 5 and 307. She was baptised at Zion's (Klinger's) Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church, located in Erdman, Dauphin county, PA, and her birth date can be extracted from those church records. In the 1870 US PA Census records she notes that her "father" was foreign born, confirming her father's German born origin. Ester and Jeremiah are briefly mentioned as the earliest known Hassingers to reside in Mifflin Township, outside of Berrysburg. Their "family" descendants are highlighted on pgs. 214-216 in a book that was published in celebration of the Sesquicentennial founding of the town of Berrysburg, published in 1969, by the Sunbury Daily Item, Inc., Sunbury, Pennsylvania 17801.
