World War Two
Millard Musco Adkins was my Father and the son of Dewey Woodrow [Earl] Adkins and Peachie Mae Miller. His wife was Hallie Jean Lowe. Millard served in World War ll with the 134th Co L, His Battles and Campaigns; Rhineland, and the Ardennes, known as the Battle of the Baldge
His awards were the Combat Infantrymans Badge, Combat Action Ribon, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, World War Two Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, European African Campaign Service Medal with two Battle stars, American Campaign Service Medal, Army Occupation Service Medal with both Germany and Japan Bars, Good Conduct Service Medal, National Defence Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Honorable Discharge Lapel Button. Dad never was in Korea the Veterans Administration made a mistake on his marker. "Go Figure"

My father Millard was the fifth son born to Dewey and Peachie and named after Peachie's father Millard Fillmore Miller. He was born July 11th 1924 in Leet, West Virginia in Lincoln Co. After the death of his mother in 1926. He and his oldest brother Dewey Edwin went to live with their mother's parents Millard and Alpha Dora Ball in Oak Hill Ohio at Hewitt's Fork in Jackson Co. Ohio. His grandmother Alpha couldn't stand the thought of letting him go after the death of Peachie and the premature death of Peachie's 6th born son in 1926. Millard grew up as a normal Little Boy full of mischief and into a bit of everything. He was always known to be a little sneaky at times never knowing were he was going to pop up next. One minute he was there and the next he was gone. I guess he carried that trait
with him threw out his life. He never realy had a waist line till he got a little older. He was always wearing shorts that didn't fit him and they were constantly falling down around his knees. He never seemed to walk like the rest of the kids in the family, they said it was more like a Jive kinda bounce walk most definitely one of a kind. But Millard Musco was always sorta different and willing to try just about anything new. He got his drivers license when he was 15 and even drove moonshine for his uncle,s. He signed up for Military service right after his 18th birthday in 1942. Using his grandparents address at Oak Hill and a mailing address of his fathers place on 8th Ave in Huntington West Virginia. After the death of his grand father Millard F Miller in 1944 he was able to come home on emergency leave for the burial. He came home from Europe on September 10, 1945. He married my mother on September 19, 1945.
