Afton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert and Gertrude Bruening
She attended high school at East High.
Afton married her eternal companion, Joe Maurice Hanni, on September 22, 1948. She was blessed with six children.
A favorite pastime was reading both fictional and scriptural materials. She was employed by Pioneer Book Store later in her marriage. Afton Loved music and was an accomplished seamstress. One of her greatest hobbies was gardening. Her yard was a showcase of color. She was an avid sports fan. The Seattle Seahawks were her favorite football team. While watching the Seattle Mariners play baseball, she was known to flip the channel or turn the TV off when they were losing! Chocolate was definitely at the top of her dessert list.
Afton was survived by all six of her children, all 27 grandchildren, and 65 great grandchildren.
