He was born December 21, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert John Bruening and Gertrude Ferndine Thorup, the oldest of eight children.
He married Beverly Luana Wise on August 31, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for sixty-five years.
Bob grew up in Utah. After graduating from high school, he served two years in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He graduated from the University of Utah as a civil engineer.
During his life, he served as a missionary for the LDS Church in the then Western States Mission and later with his wife in the St. Louis, Missouri Mission. He also served as a Bishop, Patriarch, and Temple Worker and Sealer.
He will always be remembered for his desire to serve the Savior and mankind and for the love he had for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; four children, Kent (Bonnie) Bruening, Kevin (Chris) Bruening, Kim (Max) Houtz, and Karla (Thad) Chamberlain; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters, Beverly (Doug) Hileman, Afton Hanni, and Marsha (Dave) Weatherhead; and brothers, Darold (Sandra) and Milton (Linda). He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wayne and Joyce.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, September 7, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014 in the Granite View Ward Chapel, 2675 Mount Jordan Road, Sandy. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
