Our beloved, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on May 29, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He resided at 10661 South Bay Meadows Drive (1385 East) in Sandy, Utah at the time of his death.

Born August 21, 1931 to Albert John Bruening and Gertrude Thorup.

Married the love of his life, Sylvia Evelyn Zilonka, on December 22, 1951 in the Manti Temple.

He was always there with a helping hand when it came to family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to create beautiful things in his workshop to perfection. Served in the Korean War between 1951-1952.

Retired from Utah Power and Light after 30+ years of service. Enjoyed all sports and was very competitive. He will always be remembered for his big heart and his love for his family, and his buttermilk pancakes.

Survived by his three children, John Wayne Bruening (Gina), Mark Robert Bruening (Georgia), and Jill Bruening Stimatz: 12 grandchildren, Bud (Celeste), Cody, Josh Bruening, Melissa, Taylor, Hunter Broschinsky, Alicia (Brett) Hills, Jeremy (Andrea), Craig (Jillian) Bruening, Mike, Liz and Milan Stimatz; five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his high school sweetheart Sylvia, his parents and his sister Joyce. "Don't take any wooden nickels Grandpa"!

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, where family and friends may call on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the services.
