Dale Wilbur Gilliland was born to John Taylor Gilliland and Mary E. Kinnett Gilliland in Ripley County, Indiana. He is my grand father (Harold Gilliland). The year of his birth is uncertain: Dale believed he was born in 1874 (and the Dale Gilliland family bible records this date and the WWI Draft Registation also gives this date), but the John Taylor family bible and the census of 1880 indicates the year was 1877. Other records suggest another brother, Harry E. was born in 1874. The day/month are correct. The Gillilands moved to Gibbon, Nebraska about 1878 and lived there until 1889 when they sold the farm and moved south to Oklahoma City. Dale married Birdie Roselle Sparks in Oklahoma City on November 26, 1902. They established a home near Newalla. In 1910, they were living in Washington, Caddo County and then moved to Minco. They had at least seven children. Dale suffered a fall and broke his hip and died from these injuries on June 11, 1953. He is buried in Minco.
