MR. CHARLES PETERS

One of Brazos County's Best Men Gone to His Reward

Mr. Charles Peters whose death on Friday night, May 2, was briefly mentioned in the Eagle Saturday morning, was a native of Mississippi and in his 75th year. He had been in Texas since 1866, residing a few years in Madison county and the remainder of the time at the home in the Steep Hollow community where he died. His life was spent as a farmer and was as unswerving from the path of right and duty as nature is obedient to her laws. He leaves a wife and nine children all of whom are married. They are Mrs. A. W. Buchanan, Mrs. Noah Dansby, Mrs. Oscar Wilcox, Messrs. Jesse and Edgar Peters of Brazos County; Mrs. Anson Hudson of McGirk, Texas; Mrs. J. L. Andrews of Abilene; Mrs. C. B. Hollis of Keachie, La.; Mr. A. F. Peters of Hondo City. Mr. Peters was married for fifty-five years and was a life long member of the Baptist church. He was one of the best and purest men in the county and was always looked upon as a leader among the people of his community. The large gathering at Steep Hollow cemetery Saturday afternoon gave evidence of the universal esteem in which he was held. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. S. C. Martin.
