Maroa, June 23-Mrs. Mary E. Marlatt died Saturday afternoon about 4:30 at the home of her son, Lynn Marlatt, three and one-half miles southeast of Maroa. Although she had been in failing health for several years, her last illness had only been for the last two or three weeks.
Mary Ellen Hanks was a daughter of the late William B. Hanks, who was a prominent farmer in Maroa township. She was born in this country, Dec. 10, 1855. Her parents in an early day moved to this township and she was educated in the country schools. She was united in marriage to John Marlatt, Jan. 27, 1875. For a number of years they resided on a farm southwest of Maroa. About forty years ago, they purchased the farm southeast of town where they resided until ten years ago, when they bought property here, and retired from farming. Mr. Marlatt died here in February, 1922. Two years ago Mrs. Marlatt went to live at the home of her son, where she died.
Mrs. Marlatt was the mother of eleven children, six of whom are living. They are: Roy Marlatt of Middle Inlet, Wis.; Harry Marlatt of Fonda, Ia.; Mrs. Minnie Greenfield, near Argenta; Miss Kate Marlatt of Decatur, and Albert and Lynn, residing on the home farm. There is one sister, Mrs. John Ward, of Maroa, and three brothers, John of Decatur and Jack and Charles in Maroa township.
Funeral services will be held at the Christian church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. H. Jenner. Burial will be in the Maroa cemetery.
